The American Avocet

Introduction

Today I wanted to do something. I went onto Audubon clicked the "learn more about the American Avocet" which I think was the the "bird of the day" or something. so that is how I decided to write about the American avocet. please comment below or subscribe if you liked this article.

HABITAT

This  interesting bird likes to live around beaches, shallow lakes, and prairie ponds. so they live in very open places. country wise it live on all the USA and Southern Canada.

BABY'S AND MATING

Most migrate to the coast. Some migrate to the east, spending the winter along much of the Atlantic coast.

DIET

American avocets mostly feed on small crustaceans and insects, also some seeds. On lakes in the west, they may feed heavily on shrimp and brine flies.

NESTING

These birds nest in small colonies, sometimes mixed with anther type of bird called black necked stilts which I thought very interesting. If a predator approaches, the adults do a little distraction where they crouch nearby and expand there wings.
